It was Elton John who said, “Music has healing power. It has the ability to take people out of themselves for a few hours.” There’s no doubt that music can be very powerful and healing. Wesley Place on Honeysuckle in Dothan has consistently given music a platform in various ways on the campus, and most recently in the form of the Main Street Music Series. Every first Tuesday of the month, the residents of Wesley Place on Honeysuckle anticipate something new and fresh – the gathering of their friends and family members for an hour of refreshments and great local musical entertainment.
As a community of faith, Wesley Place on Honeysuckle has long enjoyed hymns and worship songs, particularly in the community’s onsite Chapel, and the visits from traveling church choirs. The Main Street Music Series was born from the desire of community leadership to provide regular showcases of local musicians in a highly social setting outside of a traditional worship setting. Featured guests for the series have included local musicians like the Byrd Family, Cross Ties, saxophone soloist Kendall Jackson, and young pianist Ethan Bolton.
In addition to worship services, and the Main Street Music Series, there’s always a variety of music happening regularly at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle in venues all over the campus. The guitar pickings of Mike “Magoo” McGowan, the violin of WTVY personality Caroline Ritter, the strings of Gina Callander, Tracie Helms making beautiful piano music, and groups such as Bethel Baptist hosting an entertaining gospel sing-along on one of the neighborhoods!
If you’re in the area, we invite you to make plans to attend a Main Street Music Series first Tuesday of the month concert, at 3:30 pm. We’ll provide the music and refreshments – you just bring your smile and your tapping toes!
