We may think of skilled nursing facilities as places that provide healthcare and support life for seniors. This much is is true; however, there is a formal process. The “state survey” is the Alabama Department of Public Health acting as representatives for CMS (the Federal Agency that oversees Medicare) visiting a community to assess whether or not that community has met its contractual obligations as set forth in the Medicare Provider Agreement.

Each year the survey group visits Wesley Place on Honeysuckle to determine our compliance with the rules of participation (ROP), which is essentially an established set of care standards that must be met in order to participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. At the end of each survey, the surveyors reveal their findings in the form of deficiencies, which are areas that need improvement in order to continue in the Medicare Medicaid programs.

Wesley Place on Honeysuckle is proud of our recent “deficiency free” survey. That means NO issues noted! The national average number of annual citations is currently 7 per facility. It is no surprise that here in Alabama the average annual number of cited deficiencies in only 4.3 per facility. Needless to say, we are very proud of our 0 DEFICIENCY ANNUAL RECERTIFICATION SURVEY!

I am personally very thankful that our surveyors could see and feel the love between our staff and residents. A survey outcome like this is only attainable when the staff and residents share a mutual caring and concern for each other and understand that we are all active participants of a thriving and vital community.

Part of our mission statement reads, “where life is celebrated” and “relationships are valued”. At Wesley Place on Honeysuckle, we are happiest when we are living these values!
