Wesley Place on Honeysuckle’s care for senior adults reaches outside our walls to advocate for causes that affect many senior adults in the Wiregrass area.
“Over the years we have been the recipients of many good works both in time and resources from the Dothan community,” said Patrick Davis, Executive Director of Wesley Place on Honeysuckle. “We believe that it is equally important to give as it is to receive.”
In recent months, associates from Wesley Place on Honeysuckle participated in the Champions of Hope Breast Cancer Spirit Walk to raise money for expanded cancer services and programs at Southeast Alabama Medical Center, and A Walk to Remember benefitting Dothan’s Alzheimer’s Resource Center. This Christmas season Wesley Place on Honeysuckle associates will participate with the Dothan Chapter of the Salvation Army by taking shifts ringing the bell for the national organization’s largest fundraiser of the year.
Volunteerism, the giving of one’s time resources or expertise, provides countless benefits that cannot be measured in a traditional fashion. There is a special sense of pride and accomplishment that matches no other. Staff members may wear their T shirts from the annual Alzheimer’s walk months after the event. The feeling and the pride remains long after the event ends. Of course the cause benefits directly from the efforts and good will of its participants. See this article from thebalance.com on the benefits of volunteerism.
“Any time I hear of our staff or residents reaching out to volunteer or lend a hand, I am filled with pride knowing that our associates are living the “Mission” at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle,” Davies reflected. “The mission to enrich the lives of older adults and all those who serve them.”
Wesley Place on Honeysuckle’s associates who volunteer with the Salvation Army will be seen at the Hobby Lobby in Dothan on December 5th. Early next year Wesley Place on Honeysuckle is planning a Community Health Fair, so to keep up with the happenings at Wesley Place on Honeysuckle, click here to sign up for our monthly e-newsletter!
